Emma Berg also has the beginnings of some finished work:

MIA's Third Thursday presented by MNfashion: Raul Osorio

On November 18, four designers will show three pieces each based off of works in the MIA's permanent collection. In partnership with MNfashion, this event challenges some innovative local fashion designers to reimagine art as fashion. Here are Raul Osorio's inspiration images and sketches.

I love that you can definitely see a strong connection between Raul's aesthetic and the history of the pieces he's inspired by.

MIA's Third Thursday presented by MNfashion: Laura Fulk

On November 18, four designers will show three pieces each based off of works in the MIA's permanent collection. In partnership with MNfashion, this event challenges some innovative local fashion designers to reimagine art as fashion. Here are Laura Fulk's inspiration images and sketches.

Laura says, "Inspired by Harold Edgerton's photograph of a bullet shooting through an apple. This spread shows the colors I plan on using along with 3 sketched silhouettes."

"Along with the photograph's visual inspiration is also the era in which it was created. Harold Edgerton also photographed still shots of atom bomb tests with his stroboscope camera that he invented."

MIA's Third Thusday presented by MNfashion: Emma Berg

On November 18, four designers will show three pieces each based off of works in the MIA's permanent collection. In partnership with MNfashion, this event challenges some innovative local fashion designers to reimagine art as fashion. Laura Fulk, Samantha Rei, Raul Osorio and Emma Berg will each create mini-collections inspired by the MIA's permanent collection - which will then be donned by models using the museum's great halls as a decadent runway. (I spotlighted it for Vita.mn's Fall Preview issue.)

Each designer is asked to share the creative process; here's Emma Berg's inspiration images:

Pablo Picasso, Woman in an Armchair, 1927

Salvador Dali, Portrait of Juan de Pareja, the Assistant to Velazquez, 1960

Nkisi African Sculpture from the 20th Century

MNfashion announces Holiday Bazaar

MNfashion just announced its plans to launch its first annual Holiday Bazaar at their headquarters in the Grainbelt Bottling Building. It comes after its pop-up holiday boutique at Gaviidae Common over the past couple of years - but instead of a holiday season run, it will last only one day.

They're currently looking for local boutiques and designers to be a part of it, with offerings including everything from one-of-a-kind, handmade wearables to festive gems - anything you can wear or gift over the holiday season, all by local designers and artisans.

The event, co-sponsored by l'etoile magazine, is slated for Saturday, November 13 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at 79 13th Avenue Northeast in Minneapolis, where you'll be able to indulge in local treats, sip cocktails and cocoa, and enjoy personal styling services. l'etoile will have styled models and more during the event.

Applications are due to katie.mnfashion@gmail.com by October 8; visit mnfashion.org to find out how to become a vendor.

Just announced: MNfashion presents Pale Rider

[Image by Ingrid Werthmann; fashion by Danielle Everine]

One of the keystone events during this fall's MNfashion Week is sure to be "Pale Rider," a fashion show produced by MNfashion featuring local designers (and Voltage 2010 alumni) Raul Osorio and Danielle Everine. The show has just been announced along with a handful of lovely images courtesy of photographer Ingrid Werthmann (without a doubt one of the best fashion photographers in town), Molly Roark and Gail Madden - which wouldn't be out of place in a national fashion publication.

[Photo by Ingrid Werthmann; fashion by Danielle Everine]

About the show: "Danielle's collection embraces traditional wild-west styles while converging with biblical imagery of Revelations, the last book in the New Testament. Raul's collection explores the juxtaposition of hard lines, soft textures, masculine silhouettes and feminine lightness. While each designer drew inspiration from very different places, Pale Rider embraces both to create an extremely cohesive fall runway show."
