Every season, locals head to New York Fashion Week to shoot it, write about it, model in it, and style it. (Click HERE for my recap from last weekend, HERE for photos by Stephanie Colgan, and HERE for a local designer who made a splash.)

Local stylist/blogger Jane Belfry went to Fashion Week, and offers her wonderfully edited picks for best in show at her blog, Couture et Cuisine. While she was there, she went reviewed eatery Savoy.

Though she didn't attend this February, METRO Magazine's Mary O'Regan also gives her Fashion Week favorites on her Art of Wore blog.

[A Rodarte hair look via Beautylish]

The Mulleavy sisters and lead stylist Odile Gilbert discuss the looks for the Aveda-styled Rodarte show on Tuesday in the behind-the-scenes video here. Gilbert also gives a step-by-step on the hair on the Beautylish blog.

Star Tribune's Sara Glassman was at Fashion Week, and covered Monique Lhuillier, Derek Lam and Badgley Mischka, the latter of which incorporated jewelry by Minnesota-based line Sequin.

Locals do F/W 2011 New York Fashion Week, Part One

Unfortunately, I am missing out on New York Fashion Week this spring. (But planning to go next fall!) Fortunately, I'm getting plenty of updates from folks on the front lines. Minnesota-based beauty brand Aveda is always there styling big shows backstage, including Christian Siriano and Jason Wu; models from local agency Vision will be walking the runways; and local photographer Stephanie Colgan has been shooting for the New York Times (including Tory Burch). Here's some of what's happened so far:

Stylist/blogger Jane Belfry hangs with pal Fred Holson at the StyleList party at Milk Studios.

Minnesota-bred, sunglasses-designing twins Coco & Breezy hit up Fashion Week shows with 8-year-old identical twins.

Aveda did hair and makeup at Organic by John Patrick on Wednesday. Here's a behind-the-scenes video with commentary by Aveda creative director Antoinette Beenders and Global Educator/local makeup artist Janell Geason. Sara Glassman covers the Organic by John Patrick show for the Star Tribune. Aveda has backstage photos here.

Star Tribune's Sara Glassman has also attended the following shows: Diane von Furstenberg, Calvin Klein, Derek Lam, Charlotte Ronson, Rachel Antonoff, ADAM by Adam Lippes, Cynthia Rowley, Rebecca Minkoff, Rebecca Taylor, Christian Siriano, Alexander Wang, Ralph Lauren, and Isaac Mizrahi. On Wednesday, Aveda will be hosting a Livestream event on Facebook featuring the N.A. Aveda Artistic Team. Leave a comment on their Facebook page with a question for their stylists, and they'll answer them live.

On Friday, Kelsy Osterman - my former business partner in Minneapolis styling collective Eclecticoiffeur - styled backstage for Tadashi at Lincoln Center for Cutler Salon. She says, "The hair was quite simple, but beautiful. Tadashi creates gorgeous black tie affair dresses. The hair helped ground the look and helped keep them looking young and fresh. Great start to my fashion week!"

On Saturday, Kelsy styled backstage for the Adam show at Lincoln Center for Redken. She says, "It was like super sexy librarian. Most of the clothing covered their entire bodies, but lots of shears and not a lot of undergarments. Cute, big framed glasses too, but it didn't come off as hipster! The hair was again a play on texture. Two simple twists in the bag made a beautiful shape."

On Saturday morning, Kelsy styled for Binelli. She says, "This one was challenging, but fun. A multiple step hairdo with awesome results. We covered all the girls' heads with black scull caps, cut holes in then letting perfectly coiffed black synthetically attached twisted buns. Then came the black hanger hair ornaments and wrapped with textured black gauze. It was definitely a fun play on texture and
lines."

Hairstylist Charlie Brackney, who just opened his own salon HAUS, is also doing hair backstage for Cutler Salon. He uploaded this photo to Facebook yesterday, but I'm not sure which show it's from. Pretty, anyways.

Faatemah Ampey for Aveda in M.O.D. Magazine

I just ran across these gorgeous images from North American Hairstyling Award-winner (and local hairstylist) Faatemah Ampey in hair and beauty publication M.O.D. Magazine, styling for Aveda with photography by Buck Holzemer. (You may also remember Ampey from the most recent season of Shear Genius!) I'm not sure I dig the dude's anime hair (though I believe that's Hamilton from Vision models), or the newspaper clothing, but lovely to see this local talent get national exposure. Ampey is also interviewed in the magazine, viewable in online form here.

Aveda at New York Fashion Week

Lucky us - we've got a ton of great local talent that headed out to show New York Fashion Week what the Twin Cities are made of. Much of it comes from the locally-based Aveda team, headed up by international hair icon and Aveda creative director Antoinette Beenders.

Local Aveda stylist Pearson Knight styled actress Maggie Grace's hair for Christian Siriano's show.

Aveda has backstage pix at Christian Siriano with Aveda creative director Antoinette Beenders. For Siriano, Beenders reportedly created "Tribal Buns" featuring contrasting textures.
